About Us

Duttons belongs to J.W.Lees and we have written below a little bit about us and the brewery.

Duttons was bought from the Pier’s family who owned it as a Wine merchants and in fact they owned most of the ally back then. We retained the name and opened on 6th July 11 years ago. It was one of the 1st city centre developments of its kind for the brewery & has been one of their best.

J.W. Lees is one of only 26 remaining family brewers in and we’re the only one to have a family member as Head Brewer. William, Simon, Michael (our Head Brewer) and Christina are the sixth generation of the family, along with Richard and Christopher, who are the fifth generation, remain in the business today as Chairman and Vice Chairman and this is what makes working within J.W.Lees special. As we are a family owned business we believe it has a great welcoming feel.

We’ve been brewing beer at Middleton Junction, Manchester since 1828, so we like to think we know what we’re doing by now. We also have a top-notch wine and spirits merchants called Willoughby’s, so we’ve got all bases covered.

The staff working for the company are encouraged to be passionate, proud, honest, confident, savvy and real. This is developed through their training and helped by our excellent HR department, who deliver a wide range of courses covering all aspects of our industry to suit all levels of staff.

Our mission is to the most exciting brewery in the North. Examples of how we’ve been working towards this include our Coronation Street premium ale we brew, after signing a licensing agreement with ITV, and our unique Grip Glass.
